FOUR VIRTUAL ICE BREAKERS FOR REMOTE TEAMS OR LEARNERS

WHY ICE BREAKERS?

If you are leading a remote team or teaching/facilitating a remote group of learners through digital platforms, engagement becomes a real issue. You need to keep your people focused and motivated. Especially when a new team member or a learner joins the group or the whole group is already new to each other, ice breakers help create a personal connection at the start.

Here are four tested and tried ice-breaker ideas that will help you make a great beginning as a group leader or a facilitator.

1 FACT – 1 QUESTION

Invite all members to write one fact about themselves and ask them to come up with one question to the new comer or the person that they choose. This immediately increases the chances of revealing a wealth of information about each other and helps strengthening the initial bonding. The facts can be silly or fun ones.

TAKE A PICTURE

Ask them to take a picture of something on their desk, upload it in the common online space and tell everyone why they chose that item. They can pick something that best describes themselves or can tell how that item works. It might be a photo, an award or something silly.

FIND SOMETHING IN COMMON

We all tend to look for similarities when building relationships. As the leader create a quick form with questions about people’s hobbies or favorite things. Once you get the answers, send the answers out to everyone and ask them to find a person who has something in common with himself/herself and start chatting about it.

TWO TRUTHS ONE LIE

Oldie but a goldie, it works every time you play it. Everyone tells two truths and one lie about themselves and other people try to find which one is a lie. It never fails you whether it is face to face or online!
